This is a federal medical research center dedicated to improving health and setting national health prevention and treatment standards. Unlike many sites on the web, the NIH is not funded by any specific private group of doctors, drug or surgical instrument company, or other private medical business entity. Their research is as close to unbiased as you get. The NIH constantly posts the most recent research on weight loss surgery and obesity, as well as many other topics.

American Obesity Association
The AOA is a non-profit tax-exempt educational and advocacy organization and is the only obesity organization focused on changing public policy and perceptions about obesity. They are an authoritative source for policy makers, media, professionals and patients on the obesity epidemic. Some of the AOA's goals are to Make Obesity a Public Health Priority, Recognize Obesity as a Disease, Support the Prevention of Obesity, Include Obesity Treatment in Health Insurance, Advance New Treatments of Obesity, Fight Discrimination and Stigma.

The FNIC is a leader in on-line global nutrition information. Located at the National Agricultural Library (NAL) of USDA, the FNIC web site contains over 2000 links to current and reliable nutrition information with practical resources for nutrition and health professionals, educators, government personnel and consumers.
 
Shape Up America!
SUA is a not-for-profit organization committed to raising awareness of obesity as a health issue. Their web site offers special help to improve physical exercise and prevent childhood obesity. The online Fitness Center allows you to assess your readiness for physical activity, current activity level, flexibility, strength and endurance, teaches how to overcome common barriers to physical activity, and helps you design an improvement program that suits your personal goals and objectives.
